The Most Frequently Asked Questions about IIPA and Iridology

Iridology is the study of the iris, or colored part, of the eye. This structure has detailed fibers and pigmentation that reflects information about our physical and psychological makeup. It identifies inherited dispositions (how our body reacts to our environment and what potential symptoms to expect), and future challenges (where we are likely to have more problems as we age). It also helps identify inherited emotional patterns, which can create or maintain physical symptoms, as well as identify lessons or challenges and gifts or talents available to us.

IIPA teaches the synthesis of the best European, American, and other worldwide teachings. This information is rationally oriented, clinically tested, and presented in an extremely easy-to-learn manner.  It is continually being updated as research information becomes available.  It makes understanding the iris information easier for the practitioner and makes the information itself more useful for the client.

Over the years, Iridologists with different backgrounds and training have developed different
terminology and interpretations of iris signs. This has led to much confusion between Iridologists
around the world. Our Comprehensive® Iridology program presents the best of this material so you
can practice Iridology in an accurate, concise and standardized manner. This allows us to
communicate information better with one another and it allows you to better serve your clients.

There are several ways to accomplish this, please visit the IIPA Website: www.iridologyassn.org and
click on “Education” link and find all the opportunities for a Comprehensive Certified Iridology
education.

Iridology has no official standards of practice, anyone can call themselves an Iridologist, often with
little training or experience. There are also great differences in the Iridology information being taught
throughout the world. Certification from IIPA identifies you as having attained a standardized level
of education excellence. This status sets you apart, clients can feel confident in choosing you,
knowing you have received high quality education and meaningful certification requirements.

Comprehensive® Iridology Level I, Level II classes, IIPA approved Anatomy and Physiology
education, and successful completion of the IIPA Examination are required for certification. IIPA has
all the Iridology Certification Program information on our website, as well as, a list of IIPA approved
Anatomy and Physiology correspondence courses.

Iridology operates in a gray area in North America.  In general, there are no laws defining or regulating the practice.  In Europe (especially Germany) it is more recognized and routinely used by natural medicine practitioners.  It is important to understand that Iridology is an assessment tool, not a therapy, nor a diagnostic method system or tool.  Using it improperly by naming disease states, diagnosing disease, etc. is inappropriate because it can be construed as practicing medicine without a license.

Therefore, it is critically important that Iridologists be well educated in Iridology and practice in an appropriate manner.

IIPA is the organization which supports practicing Comprehensive® Iridology in a professional manner, as well as, to educate the public about its benefits.  The organization has been in existence since 1982, has attained non-profit status, and has expanded to have a Board of Directors. IIPA has Comprehensive® Certified Iridology Instructors, practitioners, and students worldwide.
